Govt. Digvijay College, Rajnandgaon was established on 13th July
1957 with the great efforts of late Raja Digvijay Das. Who felt the need to establish an institution of higher Education which would provide the facilities for the overall personality development of the students of Rajnandgaon region, Raja Digvijay Das donated 65000/- and his kila for college building. The college was earlier managed by the private body of Rajnandgaon Shiksha samiti.

The first principal (Honorary) of the college was late Shri.Kishorilal ji Shukla initially, The college had only two faculties -Art and Commerce .After one year, The faculty of science was also started .Right from the beginning the college is continuously making progress with P.G classes in all the three faculties. On 27th August 1973, the college was taken over by the Government. Later on, in the Year 1992-93, the UGC declared this college as Autonomous Scheme was implemented at P.G level only .Then in 1997-98,it was extended to P.G level too. For the overall growth of the college,”Jan Bhagidari Samiti” was formed and registered by the state Govt.in1997-98 session. This committee has proposed and Encouraged several programs for the benefit of the students. The college is presently housed in a spacious building with a campus of 10 acres land in urban area and accommodates 14 classrooms, central library, vehicle parking shed and other physical facilities.

It is a multi faculty college having in all 18 department, 10 in arts 7 in science and one commerce faculty. Although it has humble begging , now govt. Digvijay college is one of the largest educational institute of higher education in Chhattisgarh.

The mission of the college is:
